Grade 12 SMT Graduates Presentation ›
The SMT Student Services team will be hosting a Post-Secondary Parent/Guardian Presentation to review the university and college application processes and highlight important application deadlines for Grade 12 students.
Date: Thursday, October 1, 2026
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: SMT Learning Commons
We encourage Grade 12 parents/guardians to attend this presentation to learn more about the application process and how to support their student through the upcoming application season.
Post-Secondary Application Key Dates
January 15, 2027 - Deadline to submit your completed application to OUAC - Ontario Universities' Application Centre (Visit their website for the latest and most accurate information.)
February 1, 2027 - Deadline to submit your completed application to OCAS - Ontario College Application Service. (Visit their website for the latest and most accurate information.)
Important Notice: In order to attend the 2026 graduation ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by: May 21st, 2027. To graduate with a Community Service Certificate of Distinction, students must have a minimum of 40 hours completed by January 31, 2027.

AARAO Tour – Atlantic Canada Post-Secondary Fair
We are pleased to welcome the Atlantic Association of Registrars and Admissions Officers (AARAO) Tour to St. Mother Teresa High School on Tuesday, September 29, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. in the school atrium.
The AARAO Tour brings together representatives from universities, colleges, and technical institutions across Atlantic Canada, providing Ontario high school students with an opportunity to explore post-secondary options.
Representatives will be available to answer questions and provide information about programs, admissions, and campus life.
The following institutions will be in attendance: Acadia University, Dalhousie University, Mount Allison University, Mount Saint Vincent University, Memorial University, St. Francis Xavier University, University of New Brunswick, Saint Mary's University, University of King's College, University of Prince Edward Island.

The Ontario Universities Regional Fair
Regional Fairs travel across Ontario in the fall. During these events, university representatives connect directly with hundreds of students and their supporters. Events are held at local high schools, universities, and community venues. Each event is typically 1-3 hours long, and each university has an exhibit table staffed by 1-2 university representatives.
Regional Fairs:
October 6th, 2026, 5:00 - 8:00 pm - Bell Sensplex, Kanata
October 7th, 5:00 - 8:00 pm - Cairine Wilson SS, Orleans
October 8th, 5:00 - 7:00 PM - Gloucester High School, Gloucester
We encourage students to register for the event by signing up for an OUEvents Pass. This way, they can share their information with the universities they are interested in and keep the conversation going after the event.

School Letter
The school letter is awarded to graduates who have made outstanding contributions to our school community during their high school years and who model our school motto “Love & Dignity”. We strongly encourage students to submit the record of activities, (the application) at the end of each year. The activities need to be signed by teachers. If you wait until the end of grade 12 you may have difficulties tracking down teachers from a few years ago.
Applying to an Ontario University
Application to an Ontario university is done through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC).

Deadlines are important - OUAC online applications for equal consideration will be due January 15, 2027.
APPLY TO AN UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
For applicants currently attending an Ontario high school
Important dates for (OUAC) university applications:
Registration - Now open
January 15, 2027 - The deadline for current Ontario high school students to submit their completed applications to the OUAC.
May 28, 2027 - The latest date all high school applicants can expect a response from an Ontario university. This includes an offer of admission, a refusal; or a deferral, once additional information is received
June 1, 2027 - The earliest date an Ontario high school student may be required to respond to an Ontario university offer of admission and give a financial commitment.
Applying to an Ontario College
Applying to college is done on-line through the Ontario College Application System (OCAS). View the following link for specific information on how to apply to an Ontario college.
Review the online application tutorials and important dates.
Ontario Colleges start receiving application data (marks) mid-November.
Create your username and password when first logging in. Keep the username and password in a safe place, as you will need it when you return to your application to make changes or check the status of your application.
Write down your OCAS application number. You will need this number if you contact OCAS or the colleges for information.
Important dates for College applications:
September 26, 2026 - Application service open
November 1, 2026 - Earliest offer date. Offers will continue to be issued until programs are filled or waitlists are established.
February 1, 2027 - Equal Consideration Date. First application deadline.
May 1, 2027 - Deadline to confirm offers of acceptance.
June 1, 2027 - Payment of tuition deposit is due. Each college sets its own tuition deposit amount and payment deadline
Financial Support - OSAP
The 2026-2027 OSAP application is currently available online at Ontario.ca/OSAP for students starting programs in September 2026. It is strongly recommended to apply and submit all required documents by June 30, 2026, to ensure funding is processed before tuition is due.
Key Details for September 2027 Application:
Application Availability: The 2026-27 application is officially open as of spring 2027.
Application Deadline: While applications remain open throughout the year, applying by June 30 helps ensure funding is ready for September.
Eligibility: Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person meeting Ontario residency requirements and enrolled in an approved program.
New 2026 Policy Changes: For studies starting on or after Aug 1, 2026, students at public institutions will receive more provincial aid as loans rather than grants.
Steps to Apply:
Register: Create an account on the OSAP website.
Submit Application: Select the 2026-27 year and complete the full-time application.
Required Documents: Upload all required documents as early as possible.
Confirm Enrolment: Ensure your school has confirmed your enrolment to receive funds.

Post-Secondary Outside Ottawa
Workplace Transition Information
Working in Canada is a new government website loaded with valuable information.
A great starting point is to click on List of Occupations, browse the many occupations, click on one and scroll through the pages to read about wages, job descriptions, employment trends, etc.
Employment Projection Use the drop down menu for NOC Title to select a job, click on Employment in the Available Components box. You can look at the numbers or convert it to a graph to look at employment trends for various occupations.
